Edward P. Hurst, M.D.
Board Certified Ophthalmologist
Dr. Hurst completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated with honors. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and completed his residency at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri.
He opened his first successful practice, Hurst Eye Center, in Greenville, Texas in 1985. For several years this remained the only practice location until the opening of the satellite office, Rockwall Eye Associates, in Heath, Texas in 2004. The satellite office could not sustain our growth and in 2014 we relocated to our current home in Rockwall, Texas.
Dr. Hurst holds privileges at Key-Whitman Surgery Center and Ophthalmology Surgery Center both located in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Hurst routinely sees patients needing cataract surgery, diabetic and glaucoma evaluations. He treats all diseases of the eye and has performed thousands of cataract surgeries using basic and specialty lenses. He is proficient in combining cataract surgery with the FDA approved Femtosecond laser, a new state-of-the-art laser surgery procedure. Laser cataract surgery may be the best choice for patients who desire vision correction for a refractive condition that would not be addressed with cataract surgery alone. Dr. Hurst also offers dropless cataract surgery. This advanced procedure places a combination of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications into the eye at the time of surgery which are slowly absorbed over a period of a few weeks following surgery. This provides patients the benefit of post-operative medications without the hassle of remembering drops.
Away from the office, Dr. Hurst is involved in overseas medical missions where he has performed cataract surgeries and offered much needed eye care to those in need. He enjoys traveling, reading and spending time at the farm tending to the livestock and driving his tractor.
